Management at MinterEllison

8.4
8.4 rating for Management, based on 17 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
Partners and senior lawyers are very generous with their time. It is normally incumbent on you to reach out for feedback or with questions, but they will always answer any questions or provide detailed feedback when asked.

Structured feedback mechanisms in place, people are approachable so can ask for feedback.

Amazing, super responsive (instant actually) and always making time to answer my many questions. My supervisors are always in the office and I love having them nearby in case I have any queries. My supervisor, Talent and buddies all make time to sit down for an hour with me over coffee to check in on me. Once I had an emotional response to some triggering work I was reading, and as soon as they found out, they immediately jumped into action and put in boundaries that I was hesitant to put in place, and constantly checked in on me after that to ensure I was doing okay. The Partner was particularly hands on and understanding. They booked me in for EAP, organised more trauma training with Talent, sent me lots of resources and reviewed my workload.

Mentoring and communication are great. Feedback is quite good during organised feedback sessions, but I think more real-time feedback would be valuable.

It varies from partner to partner, team to team. There are some partners that take a vested interest in juniors and are generous with their time. Others are more client-focused and can be a little harder to connect with.

Internal communication and mentoring is good. More feedback and regular check-ins would be beneficial.

Very happy with my manager in my team. She is very laid-back and easy to communicate with.

Very dependent on specific managers - some are fantastic mentors, others won't even acknowledge juniors.

My managers are approachable and I always feel as though I can ask questions regarding changing my usual working days/ if I needed to take a day off (as I don't have leave as a paralegal). There are definitely people who stand out as good mentors. Others I would say that mentorship is not their strength - but that's ok, it's not everyone's cup of tea. I know there are formal feedback structures set up but as a paralegal I have not been involved. I've never received any formal feedback. The best way I have found to get 'feedback' is to be cc'd on work that you have contributed to when it goes out. Unfortunately, this is not common practice by all seniors in the team I'm in so its been a little difficult to see how my work contributes.

Varies significantly between teams.

Managers at MinterEllison are very accessible. All partners have an open door policy and are always happy to make time to speak to junior lawyers. There is also a company culture around coffee catch ups whereby senior lawyers of teams you may be interested in are happy to grab a coffee and chat about their work and the team. Partners are less likely to give direct feedback, however more junior lawyers certainly fill this space, always happy to provide advice and mentorship

I always receive positive, encouraging and useful feedback from my mentors.
